Day 8: Mount Kailash Trek Day 1: Darchen to Dirapuk Monastery

After breakfast in Darchen, begin the sacred Mount Kailash kora, a pilgrimage walked by devotees for centuries. Board an eco-bus to Sarshung Valley, where today’s trek officially starts, following the peaceful Lha Chu River Valley toward the holy mountain.

The trail unfolds gently, allowing time to walk, breathe, and absorb the spiritual atmosphere of the surroundings. Along the way, you will pass several important pilgrimage sites that mark the beginning of the circumambulation.

Sacred Stops Along the Way

Continue another 2 kilometers to reach Dolma La Pass (5,630 m), the highest point of the kora. Ascending this sacred pass is regarded as a profound spiritual achievement in Tibetan Buddhism, symbolizing the cleansing of past sins and the renewal of one’s soul. Prayer flags flutter endlessly in the wind, carrying pilgrims’ wishes and blessings across the plateau. From the top, enjoy awe-inspiring views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
